Perfect London Date Spots

It can be awkward to choose where to take a new beau on a date in London. Your mates say, ‘just go to the pub’, or you wind up choosing a decidedly average restaurant…yep, completely awkward! But dating doesn’t have to be uncomfortable. There are great places to visit on a first date and the key is simply planning a little in advance…and of course, knowing where the best date spots in the city are…

PING – Earls Court Road

Like we said, dating doesn’t have to be awkward…it can be heaps of fun! And that fun can definitely be found at PING.

PING is a kitchen, bar and games room all rolled into one, ingeniously inspired by the game of Ping Pong. Marketing itself as a hangout for London’s ‘creative minds’, the highly visual, fun-filled atmosphere is perfect for taking the edge of first date nervousness. With walls scattered with street art, prints and mirrors, you’ll have something to look at if you’re finding it hard to look your date in the eye!

The menu doesn’t contain anything groundbreaking, but their pizzas are great…but we doubt you’ll be taking much notice of the cuisine once you’ve loosened up after a couple of drinks and a game or two of Ping Pong!

If competition is up your street…take your date to ‘Tournament Tuesdays’…but don’t blame us if you lose!

V&A Museum – Kensington

Research shows that 20% of people had fallen in love in a museum…and not with the artefacts we might add! And the V&A topped the poll of most romantic museums. We can imagine why. The beautiful building, located by the Natural History Museum and Science Museum, is stunning inside and out.

The V&A houses some of the most interesting and beautiful artefacts from around the world; from furniture, fashion to sculptures and religious relics. It is the perfect place to wander with a date; observing wonderful history and discussing life. You can also visit the museum in the evening as part of the ‘Lates’ programme for that added ambience, on the last Friday of every month.

It would probably be a good idea to not venture into the jewellery room…a tad pre-emptive we think!

The Book Club – Shoreditch

If you thinking novels, a pot of tea and a slice of Victoria Sponge …then you are wrong! The Book Club is anything but bookish! A warehouse conversion in Shoreditch is the setting for this quirky, eclectic bar which pumps out great music of an evening. Whilst seats are few and far between, the ambience is pretty cosy.

The Book Club is the perfect spot for a first date; it is reasonably priced, super cute and extremely relaxed with an interesting mixture of clientele coming in through the doors…which can certainly make for some great conversation!

Eltham Palace – Eltham

As you hop on the train out of Central London to visit Eltham Palace…you date may think you have gone slightly crackers. But once you arrive, everything should fall swimmingly into place.

Eltham Palace is an unoccupied royal residence in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, and has a beautiful, well-preserved Art-Deco interior. the interior has been the setting for umpteen films and music videos, including Brideshead Revisited and Bright Young Things. Now owned and looked after by English Heritage, the house is said to be one of the most haunted sites on their register.

As the property is within the bounds of Greenwich, why not stop off in Greenwich Village on your way back to the city for a spot of dinner at Jamie Italian or the Rivington Grill, followed by a walk through the Naval College gardens.

Prince Charles Cinema – Leicester Square

Situated just off Leicester Square, Prince Charles Cinema is a repertory cinema showing a rotating programme of cult, arthouse and classic films, alongside recent Hollywood releases. For the brave among us, it also shows sing-a-long and quote-a-long versions of musical and cult movies, where the audience can join!

With a cult status of its very own, and showings every day, the cinema is the perfect place for an awkward first date. And with so many things to do in the vicinity, if the evening goes well…there are plenty of bars close by to carry on the party!
